Eye-catching in its day this jersey’s design is iconic now. Brooklyn was an Italian chewing gum manufacture that took over sponsorship of an Italian team when its first sponsor, a brewer called Dreher, dropped out. When it did, the kit changed to take a stars and stripes US flag design in accordance with Brooklyn’s American vibe.
The most famous Brooklyn rider was Roger De Vlaeminck of Belgium, who took three of his record four Paris-Roubaix victories, won Il Lombardia twice and the Tour of Flanders once in the Brooklyn colours.
